DELSU Pharmacy Graduates Threaten Showdown

Four years after graduating from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Delta State University, Delsu, Abraka, ex-students of the university under the aegis of Concerned Delsu Pharmacy Graduates, CDPG, have threatened a showdown with the university’s management if the Pharmacy programme was not duly accredited by the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, PCN, a professional body for all licensed pharmacists in Nigeria, on or before April 15, 2014.

The ex-students, who visited Vanguard Newspapers, Lagos, yesterday, said they were recently disturbed by the reaction of Delta State governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan,  to the issue, on a television programme.

The leader of the group, Mr. Anthony Oghenekaro, said that since they were admitted in 2007, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eric Arubayi, had always assured them that the programme would be accredited within a short time. He lamented that the governor’s recent position in the interview, that he was unaware that the university’s Pharmacy graduates cannot be inducted as a result of their not being accredited by PCN, had made them very worried.

Oghenekaro said: “It is shocking that four years after we graduated from Delsu, we heard Governor Uduaghan say that he was not aware that the Pharmacy programme in the university had not been accredited  by the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria. It is, therefore, unfortunate that after four years of waiting patiently, our hopes have been dashed by the governor’s reaction in the television programme.

“It means that we can even wait till eternity without being recognised as licensed pharmacists. Our concern is that the university’s management has been lying to us that it was doing something about it.”
