The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Senate has recently approved a revised Student Handbook during its 161st Regular Senate Meeting held on April 13th, 2023. The updated handbook outlines 30 significant misconducts that students and members of the university community should avoid. This blog post highlights these misconducts and the respective sanctions imposed on violators.

Misconducts and Sanctions:

The following is a list of the misconducts and their respective sanctions as outlined in the revised Student Handbook:

  1. Multi-colored braids for females: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  2. Colored hairstyles: Rustication for two (2) semesters.
  3. Hair braiding for males: Rustication for two (2) semesters.
  4. Dreadlocks: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  5. Spangled hairstyles for males: Rustication for two (2) semesters.
  6. Earrings for males/cowries for females: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  7. Unconventional wearing of face cap/fez cap: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  8. Tattered jeans: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  9. Micro/mini dresses: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  10. Crop tops/jump tops: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  11. Off-shoulder clothes: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  12. Backless clothes: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  13. Transparent wears: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  14. Bum shorts: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  15. Nose, mouth, eye extra rings: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  16. Sagging: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  17. Tattoos: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  18. Engaging in reckless driving: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  19. Driving a car with tinted glass: Impounding the car and rustication for one (1) semester.
  20. Driving/operating a car with loud music: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  21. Driving a car without a plate number: Impounding the car and rustication for one (1) semester.
  22. Unwelcome touching, kissing, hugging, massaging, or sitting on each other’s lap by opposite sex: Rustication for two (2) semesters.
  23. Pressure for or forced sexual activity (rape): Expulsion/report offenders to the police.
  24. Male entry into the room of a female student: Expulsion.
  25. Male entry into the female hostel: Expulsion.
  26. Female entry into the room of a male student after 10:00 pm: Expulsion.
  27. Taking a bath outside the bathroom/toilet: Rustication for one (1) semester.
  28. Use of unauthorized electrical appliances that may cause damage to electrical facility: Repair/replacement of facility; rustication for one (1) semester.
  29. Illegal occupation of rooms or university buildings: Ejection; rustication for one (1) semester.
  30. Causing damages through cooking in halls: Repairs/replacement; rustication for one (1) semester.
