Auchi Polytechnic Plans to Start Awarding Degree in 11 Disciplines:

The Rector of Auchi Polytechnic, Dr Philipa Idogho, on Thursday said the institution had concluded plans to start the award of degrees in 11 disciplines.

Idogho, who made this known at the polytechnic’s 21st convocation, said the polytechnic was collaborating with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, to achieve the aim.

She said the Senate of the university approved the affiliation after assessing the infrastructure and manpower in the affected disciplines.

Idogho said the programmes included electrical/electronics, civil engineering, business administration, accounting, building technology, estate management, education/physics, among others.
She said the National Universities Commission (NUC) was expected in the institution later in December to carry out its own assessment of facilities and personnel.

Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo counseled the polytechnic against deviating from its core mandate of providing middle level manpower for the country.
Represented by Patrick Obahiagbon, his Chief of Staff, Oshiomhole said polytechnics had vital role to play in the country’s quest for technological development.

The governor also advised that polytechnics be carried along in the Federal Government transformation agenda through improved funding and provision of facilities.

He urged the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the institution.

The Supervising Minister for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, commended the management of the polytechnic on the infrastructural development of the institution.

Represented by Dr Mas’udu Kazaure, Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Wike said the Federal Government remained committed to the development of technical and vocational education.
