The Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the visitor His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, the Governing Council, Senate, Management, Staff and Students is pleased to announce the approval of nine academic programmes by the NUC for the forthcoming 2021/2022 session.

It is no longer news that the 17-member NUC team visited the BMU on Thursday 21st October 2021 and Friday 22nd October 2021 for a resource verification exercise. Having met the criteria for the 4 core components of the accreditation exercise, the NUC in its wisdom has granted approval to BMU to admit students into the following programmes.

  1. Medicine and Surgery MBBS
  2. Public Health B.Sc
  3. Community Health B.Sc
  4. Physiotherapy B.Sc
  5. Medical Laboratory Science BMLS
  6. Optometry OD
  7. Dentistry BDS
  8. Nursing Science BNSC
  9. Human Nutrition and Dietetics BSc

This is an addition to the other 9 existing programmes the University has been running bringing it to a total of 18 programmes.

According to Conrad Hilton founder of Hilton Hotel chain, an American businessman, “Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving, they make mistakes but they don’t quit.” It is germane to say these words typify the disposition of the leadership of the BMU under Prof. Ebitmitula Etebu the Vice-Chancellor.

The Vice-Chancellor while expressing joy at the announcement, stated that the road to this epoch-making day has been challenging, and says with this accreditation, BMU is poised to deliver excellent learning and teaching experience to its students and intending students and urged jamb candidates to take advantage of this opportunity by making BMU their premium destination for the nine stated programmes.

He wishes to especially appreciate the continuous support of the Visitor to the University, His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, HE Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Dr Gentle Emelah, Commissioner for Education Bayelsa State, the Governing Council under the dynamic Chairmanship of the Pro-Chancellor, Emeritus Prof. Nimi Briggs(OON), Senate, Management, Staff and Students for their immense contribution towards the successful accreditation of the programmes.

He noted that with this phase over, the hard work of actualizing the mandate of BMU continues and charged Staff to double their commitment towards this goal.
