A Generous Scholarship Programme
In 2024, the school will confer two scholarships as part of the Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP), generously supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). These scholarships are not merely financial aid; they are keys to unlocking academic potential and career opportunities. The scholarship period is set to commence in October 2024, with language preparations beginning in the summer if needed. Scholars can benefit from up to four years of support, covering the breadth of their doctoral training.
Criteria for Eligibility
Who Can Apply?
- The programme welcomes applications from exceptional African women scholars who are currently residing on the continent.
- Eligibility extends to those who have attained a Master’s or equivalent degree within the last six years at the time of their nomination by BIGSAS.
- Applicants should not have resided in Germany for more than fifteen months at the nomination point.
- While applications can be submitted in German, English, or French, please note that BIGSAS operates predominantly in English.
The Application Process
Steps to Apply
Prospective candidates are required to complete an online form and submit several supporting documents. It is imperative that applications and accompanying documents can be presented in English, French, or German, with certification where necessary.
Necessary Documentation
- A duly signed supervision agreement.
- An exhaustive project proposal not exceeding 10 pages, detailing the dissertation’s objectives, including a work and time schedule, with a concise one-page summary in English.
- A letter of motivation that gives insights into the applicant’s aspirations for joining BIGSAS.
- A digital copy of the applicant’s Master’s thesis.
- Two letters of recommendation from academic mentors or supervisors, complete with personal signatures.
- A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) showcasing academic and professional milestones.
- A self-declaration of not having a doctoral acceptance elsewhere.
- Educational certificates, from Secondary School Graduation certificates to Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree certificates, including transcripts.
- A portfolio of academic publications if applicable.
