Buhari Renames Federal University Ebonyi after Ekwueme
President Muhammadu Buhari has renamed the Federal University, Ndufu-Ikwo in Ebonyi State after the late former Vice President, Alex Ekwueme.
Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, made the announcement on Friday, at Oko, Anambra State during the burial of Mr. Ekwueme, who was Vice President of Nigeria between 1979 and 1983.
The University would now be known as Dr. Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo, Ebonyi State.
According to Osinbajo, the decision to rename the school was a way of immortalizing the late architect who has been describes by many as humility personified.
Mr. Osinbajo said the renaming had already been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari, who had said Mr. Ekwueme was being honoured for his contributions to national development.
