Chrisland University Confirms NUC Verification Of Law Programme
Authorities of Chrisland University, Abeokuta are overjoyed at the approval granted by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the Institution to commence Law Programme.
The University, however, clarified that what the Commission granted it was not accreditation but approval, explaining that what NUC grants any University, in the first instance, based on verification of the standard requirements, facilities as well as human and material resources, is approval.
In a Press Release issued by the University’s Head, Public Relations, Mr Ayo Arowojolu, the Institution explained further that accreditation only comes after an initial period of two or three years.
According to him, the clarification becomes necessary following various newspaper publications which, though used the word “approval” in the body of the news stories but erroneously used the word “accreditation” in the headlines.
In a letter addressed to the University dated Monday March 14, 2022 and signed by Dr N. B. Saliu, for the NUC Executive Secretary, the Commission stated: “the Vice-Chancellor is pleased invited to recall that a resource verification visit was carried out by panel of experts to a proposed academic programme in Chrisland University, Owode with a view to assessing the human and material resources available for its establishment.
“I am directed to inform the Vice-Chancellor that the Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the underlisted undergraduate programme(Law (LL., to be run in the main campus of the University with effect from the 2021/22 academic session”
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola, the release added, expressed appreciation to the NUC for its painstaking efforts being put into quality assurance and control in Nigeria’s universities.
Chrisland University was established in 2015 by the Chancellor, High Chief Dr. Mrs. Winifred Awosika, OON, who chairs the Board of Trustees and has a Governing Council headed by the Pro-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ayodeji Olukoju.
