Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti (FEDPOLYADO) Gets New Rector


Dr Temitope John ALAKE, a Chief Lecturer and COREN Registered Electrical/Electronic Engineer, has been appointed as the 7th substantive Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti for a single tenure of five (5) years with effect from 23rd February 2023.

Dr. Temitope John ALAKE, a Chief Lecturer in the Polytechnic and a COREN Registered Engineer in the field of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, has been appointed as the new Rector of The Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti.

The appointment letter was signed and personally handed over to the new Rector on Monday 30th January by the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, in his office in Abuja on the 23rd of January, 2023.

First paragraph of the letter addressed to the new Rector with the title “APPOINTMENT OF DR. TEMITOPE JOHN ALAKE. AS RECTOR, FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, ADO-EKITI, EKITI STATE” reads; I write to convey to you the approval of Mr. President, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, for your appointment as Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

According to the second paragraph of the letter announcing Dr. T.J. Alake’s appointment as Rector, “the appointment is for a single tenure of five (5) years with effect from February 23rd, 2023 in accordance with the Federal Polytechnics (Amendment) Act 2019.”

Dr. T.J. Alake’s appointment as the seventh substantive and second Alumnus Rector of the Institution will see him succeed and take over from the incumbent sixth substantive and first Alumnus Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Dayo Hephzibah Oladebeye, whose five-year tenure will end at midnight on February 22, 2023.

Dr. T.J. Alake received his Higher National Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti in 1986. He formally attended seven different institutions, ranging from primary school to two different polytechnics and three universities, where he obtained eight different certificates, including the HND; PGD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering; PGD in Technical Education from the University of Benin; a Master’s degree in Engineering (M.Eng) from Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka; and a PhD in Electronics Engineering from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State.

To date, the incoming Rector has over 56 scholarly publications, including five Thesis/Dissertation/Projects, three monographs, and 48 other onshore and offshore journal articles and academic publications.
Dr. T.J. Alake is a full member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, MNSE, and a COREN Registered Engineer in Electronic Engineering. He also belongs to the Nigerian Institution of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, MNIEE, and the National Association of Teachers of Technology, MNATT.

Dr. T.J. Alake joined the Polytechnic in September 1997 after working as a teacher with the Ondo State Teaching Service Commission (1987-1991) and the then Ondo State College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti from June 1991 to August 1997. He rose through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer in January 2015.

He has served as a Head of Department, Sub-Dean, and Chairman of several Committees in the Institution, as well as a former Chairman of the local chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP.

Dr. T.J. Alake served as Sabbatical Staff on the faculty of Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara State, between 2016 and 2017; he was also an adjunct faculty member, Pioneer Coordinating Dean, and pioneer Head of the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering at Ekiti State Polytechnic Isan Ekiti, from 2020 to 2022.
