Accreditation Details

The NUC, responsible for accrediting academic programmes in Nigerian universities, confirmed the accreditation in a letter from the Acting Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu. The letter was read by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, during the 85th Senate meeting on 27th June 2024. All 42 programmes assessed, many for the first time, received accreditation.

Efforts and Achievements

When Professor Akinwumi assumed office in 2021, many new programmes inherited from his predecessor were not verified by the NUC or recognised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Aware of the importance of securing these approvals, the Vice-Chancellor committed to ensuring these programmes underwent the necessary resource verification and subsequent accreditation.

Despite financial challenges, the Vice-Chancellor and his team worked diligently to secure the required approvals. By 2022, the university obtained NUC and JAMB approvals for these programmes and has now achieved full accreditation. This milestone brings relief and joy, especially for 400-level students who were uncertain about graduating and joining the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

Additional Developments

The university also secured re-accreditation for existing programmes in the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences. Following its 5-year vision plan, the administration established new programmes in Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory, Engineering, Law, Agriculture, Educational Management and Planning, and more.
