The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, has gotten full accreditation for five academic programmes. They are Accounting, Business Administration, Library and Information Science, Education Mathematics and Criminology and Security Studies.
In a letter from the National Universities Commission (NUC), dated April 14, 2022, and signed on behalf of the Secretary by the NUC’s Director of Accreditation, Maryam Salli, and addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, FUOYE, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, NUC said it had given full accreditation to the five courses.
The letter from NUC entitled “Results of October/November Accreditation of Academic Programmes in Nigerian Universities said that “the National Universities Commission (NUC) has the statutory mandate to accredit academic programmes in Nigerian Universities. “Pursuant to this mandate and in consonance with the provisions of the Government’s approved guidelines, initial accreditation of a programme is held after the programme has run for two academic sessions following approval for the establishment of the programme.
“Therefore, the Commission accredits the approved programmes as and when due. Consequently, the NUC organized the accreditation of academic programmes at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti in October/November 2021.
The following are the results of the exercise, Accounting, Business Administration (full), Education Mathematics, Library and Information Science (full) and Criminology and Security Studies (full).”
However, while commenting on the laudable development, the Acting Director of Academic Planning, Dr Chika Asogwa, attributed the feat to the sterling performance and leadership qualities of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, saying, “since the Vice-Chancellor’s assumption of duty on February 11, 2021, he has been working assiduously to raise the standard of infrastructure in terms of providing a very conducive teaching ad learning environment for both the staff and the students of our great institution. And we have achieved this success as a result of the VC’s outstanding performance.
“Let me also assure you that this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what the VC is planning for our Ivory Tower. Greater feats are coming shortly.”
