The Senate of Federal University of Technology, Minna had approved the establishment of College of Health Sciences in the University and would soon start the process of seeking the National Universities Commission’s (NUC) approval. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji made this know during a return visit to the Management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Bida. It would be recalled that earlier the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Usman on his assumption of duty paid a familiarization visit to the University where he proposed to collaborate with the Institution for its ambition to create the College of Health Sciences.

Prof Akanji who was accompanied by the Principal Officers as well as the Medical Director of the University Health Services reiterate his commitment to the programme while revealing that the programme would commence  as soon as the it gets NUC’s approval. He noted that the University would provide the primary health care and the FMC would give the clinical and expertise while praying for a fruitful engagement.

In his response Dr. Usman expressed delight for the visit adding that FMC Bida is ready to partner with the University in order to achieve success. He said  medical education is capital intensive, takes a lot of effort and time which requires will and commitment to succeed. According to him the Medical Centre has up to date facilities which are better than the ones he used during his medical training as such it is a fertile land for medical training, teaching and research. Dr. Usman stated that the hospital is at present on its temporary site and assured the University Management that they would be involved in the development of its permanent site which is still a virgin land.

FMC, Bida has about 37 consultants in different specialties that are ready to render their expertise in medical teaching and research to the University. He added.
