IAUE Unveils Six New Departments

Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) has recently announced the establishment of six new departments, expanding academic opportunities for students and broadening the institution’s program offerings. The announcement was made during the matriculation ceremony held on March 31st at the university auditorium.

The new departments include entrepreneurship, employment and human resource management, social works, science education, business education, and social science education. In addition to these, the department of banking and finance has already received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, emphasized that the expansion of academic programs would create more admission opportunities for both indigenes and residents of the state. He assured the newly matriculated students that his administration would support them in their pursuit of quality higher education, preparing them to excel in the 21st-century knowledge-driven economy.

Professor Onuchuku reminded students that their primary focus should be on their studies and graduating with good grades. He also encouraged students with a passion for sports to participate actively, considering the potential opportunities within the industry.

The Vice-Chancellor advised newcomers to avoid cultism, examination malpractice, and other vices, stressing the importance of adhering to university rules and regulations. He urged parents to pay their children’s fees and other levies promptly and to monitor their academic performance closely.

Expressing gratitude towards the Rivers State government for its support, Professor Onuchuku also applauded the parents for their confidence in the institution, reassuring them that their trust would not be taken for granted.

A total of 7,077 students were admitted into IAUE this academic year. Of this number, 6,736 were admitted through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), while 341 students were admitted through ‘A’ level/direct entry pathways.
