LUTH Medical and Psychiatry Social Work Admission Form

It is our pleasure to inform you that the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) is now accepting applications for its one-year programme in Medical and Psychiatry Social Work for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Established in 1990 by the Medical Social Services Department of LUTH, the School of Medical and Psychiatry Social Work (SMPSW) – Postgraduate Certificate – came into existence to fill a significant training gap in the education of Medical and Psychiatry Social Workers in the country. The programme is designed to foster the development of skilled Medical and Psychiatric Social Workers capable of adapting to the evolving dynamics of human society.

Our mission is to train professionals who possess an in-depth understanding of the personal, cultural, and social determinants of health, alongside clinical skills, critical thinking skills, community engagement, and advocacy skills. This way, we can ensure the provision of world-class social services in a clinical setting. The course commences in October 2023, and successful completion leads to the award of a certificate in Medical and Psychiatry Social Work.

Admission Requirements

Eligibility for this programme requires:

  1. A Graduate degree in Social Work, Sociology or Psychology from a recognised tertiary institution.
  2. Candidates with other degree courses may be considered if they possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in Social Work Practice.

How to Apply

Application is a straightforward process. Here is the step-by-step guide:

  1. Visit the Admission Portal at https://luth.gov.ng/schools/ and select your preferred school.
  2. Fill out the Account Creation Form, providing accurate information and a functional email address.
  3. Upon account creation, you will receive an email with your login details.
  4. Pay the application fee of N10,000. You can make the payment immediately or later following the instructions provided.
  5. After successful payment, visit https://luth.gov.ng/profile/ and login with the user ID provided in the email to complete the Application Form for the desired programme.

Please note that applicants must print out their completed online application bio-data, which is sent to their email after application completion. Short-listed applicants will be required to present this during the entrance examination.

The application process closes six (6) weeks from the date of this publication. Therefore, interested candidates are advised to apply as soon as possible.
