‘Mathematics is the Key to Solving Social Problems’:
A non-governmental organisation, Our Generation Foundation, has urged pupils to be more committed to studying Mathematics, saying it is the key to solving social problems.
The foundation’s Executive Director, Mrs. Gbonjubola Odumusi, made the appeal during a Mathematics competition organised for Junior Secondary School pupils in Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to her, Mathematics is an interesting subject that any pupil who wants to attain greater heights in life will not treat with levity.
Odumusi, who urged pupils to take the learning of the subject seriously, promised that the foundation would continue to support and expose schoolchildren to love Mathematics.
Presenting awards, comprising Mathematics textbooks, cash and medals to the finalists, she noted that over 91 pupils participated in the preliminary contest, which started last February 1.
Meanwhile, in the competition entitled “Mathematics is Simple”, a pupil of the Area Community Junior Secondary School, Owode, Faith Akapo, emerged the overall best candidate.
Akapo beat four other contestants in the finals, scoring 36 out of 50 points.
In the event, which took place at the Able God International School, Owode Yewa, Bukola Durojaiye from the Royal Eagle Model College, scored 33 points to emerge the second placed winner; while Blessing Omninyi of the Atlantic Academy, clinched the third position with 29.3 points.
