Essay Topic
Participants are expected to write on the topic “Navigating the future: safety first!”
This theme highlights the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) commitment to safety, security, and environmental protection in a rapidly changing technological world.
Eligibility Guidelines
The competition is open to students of Maritime Tertiary Institutions and institutions with maritime departments.
You must submit bona fide proof of studentship, which includes admission letters and identity cards from your institution.
Essays should be submitted to both wmdessay@nimasa.gov.ng and mail@samuelson.com.ng.
Your essay must not exceed 1,200 words, and should be double-spaced, in MS Word format, with font size 12.
Plagiarism and the use of AI tools are strictly prohibited.
Submission Requirements
Your submission should include the following details:
- Name
- Telephone number
- Email address
Essays that fail to meet these guidelines will be disqualified.
Only shortlisted participants will be contacted.
Prizes and Awards
The winners of the NIMASA World Maritime Day Essay Competition will receive the following:
- 1st Place: N500,000 Education Grant, a laptop, a plaque, and publication of the essay in NIMASA’s magazine The Voyage and on the NIMASA website
- 2nd Place: N350,000 Education Grant, a laptop, and a plaque
- 3rd Place: N250,000 Education Grant, a laptop, and a plaque
- 7 Consolation Awards: N100,000 Education Grant and a plaque for each
Deadline
The deadline for submitting your essay is Friday, September 13, 2024.
Essays submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
Prize Presentation
Winners will be notified once the scoring process is complete.
Prizes and awards will be presented on a date to be announced.
