ASUU Strike: NLC Declares 2-Day Nationwide Solidarity Protest

As the ASUU Strike continues, the NLC will begin a two-day nationwide solidarity protest

On Tuesday, July 26, 2022, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) will begin a two-day nationwide protest in solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other affiliate unions over the ongoing industrial action in Nigeria’s public universities.

The NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, stated this in a circular jointly signed by the Congress’s General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, on Sunday in Abuja.

The circular reads in part, “We bring you fraternal greetings from the NLC’s national secretariat.”

“In accordance with the decisions of the NLC’s National Executive Council meeting on June 30, 2022, we have organised as follows the National Days of Protest to bring our children back to school and support our unions fighting for quality education in Nigeria’s public universities.”

The demonstration would take place on “Tuesday, July 26, 2022, and Wednesday, July 27, 2022, across all states of the Federation and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory,” according to the circular.

“The NLC State Secretariats and the Labour House in Abuja are the starting points.” “You are requested to hold the meetings of your SAC as soon as possible in order to distribute this information and fully mobilise workers in the states for this extremely crucial protest for good governance,” it continued.
