NMCN Warns against Enrolment at St Gabriel's College

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) warns the public about the unrecognized St Gabriel's College of Nursing Sciences in Benue State. The institution is not accredited to run any nursing or midwifery programmes. Enrolling in its courses could pose significant risks.

Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria Warning

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has recently issued a public disclaimer notice regarding the recognition of St Gabriel’s College of Nursing Sciences, located at KM7, Makurdi Naka Road, Makurdi, Benue State. In a move that underscores the Council’s commitment to safeguarding the standards of nursing and midwifery education in the country, it has warned the public to be aware of the institution’s status and the risks associated with enrolling in its programmes.

Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s Stance

The Council has made it clear that St Gabriel’s College of Nursing Sciences is not accredited by the NMCN to run any programme in nursing or midwifery. This means the college has not met the Council’s rigorous standards for the provision of nursing and midwifery education, and thus its qualifications may not be recognized by professional bodies or employers.

Public Advisory

The general public is hereby advised to desist from accepting any offer of admission into the nursing and midwifery programmes of the said college. The Council has unequivocally stated that the institution’s programmes lack the necessary accreditation, and thus those who enrol in them do so at their own risk.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, being the only legal and administrative, corporate and statutory body charged with the performance of specific functions on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria in order to ensure the delivery of safe and effective Nursing and Midwifery care to the public, has a duty to maintain the integrity of the profession. It is in fulfilment of this duty that it has issued this warning.

Moving Forward

Prospective students are urged to exercise caution and to verify the accreditation status of any institution before enrolling in a nursing or midwifery programme. This can be done by checking the list of accredited institutions on the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s website or by contacting the Council directly.

In conclusion, it is essential for everyone to remember that quality education is a vital foundation for a successful career in nursing and midwifery. Therefore, making informed decisions about where to study is of paramount importance. Stay informed, stay safe.
