NSUK To Adopt Whistle-blowing Policy In Its Fight Against Unethical Conduct of Lecturers

Students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi has been called upon to support the present administration’s reform efforts, especially in its fight against unethical behaviours by some lecturers, who sexually harass students and engage in sale of grades.

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed, made the call when he received members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) led by the President, Comrade Bamidele Danielson Akpan, on Friday, 22nd March, 2019 in Keffi.

Prof. Suleiman said management will collaborate with the Students’ Union Government (SUG) through implementation of a whistle-blowing policy, where students can confidentially report incidents of sexual harassment, extortions, sale of grades and others unethical conducts of some staff.

The Acting Vice Chancellor said immoral behaviours and unethical conducts can no longer be tolerated, charging the students to lead the vanguard of management reform programmes so as to institute a virile and functional university system.

“You will agree with me that the students are the most critical stakeholder in the University system. We solicit for your support for the reforms we are doing.

“We are open to your suggestion and ready to accede when you have superior argument”, he promised.

Earlier, NANS President Comrade Bamidele Danielson Akpan, who is a student of the University, said the visit was to present to the Acting Vice Chancellor a brand new bus donated to the Association by the Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, for his “fatherly blessings”.

The NANS President briefed the Acting Vice Chancellor on the programmes and projects he intends to initiate in partnership with the private sector, promising to kick start the project from NSUK – being the National Secretariat of NANS.
