Contrary to widespread reports, and in further confirmation of its academic excellence and intellectual supremacy over and above other Universities and Institutions of Higher Learning, the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has, again, been rated the first and the best University in Nigeria by Cybermetrics Lab of Spain, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC).
Reacting to this development, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Bamitale Omole, applauded the ranking, ascribing the first position which Obafemi Awolowo University has been maintaining for the past years to the hard work and dedication to duty of the academic, administrative and technical staff, whose midas torch has placed the University far and above more than one hundred (100) other universities in Nigeria.
Professor Omole re-emphasized his determination to make training and retraining of staff, on constant basis, his topmost priority, adding that he would not rest on his oars until Obafemi Awolowo University becomes the best in Africa, and one of the top ten in the world.
The Vice-Chancellor, then, called on the Federal government to pump more funds into the university education, especially Obafemi Awolowo University where staff have been equipped with sound intellectual arsenal that could comfortably contribute to the socio-economic and political growth of Nigeria, in tune with the realities of the 21st century.
He also called on the alumni of the University to come to the aid of their alma mater by contributing their widow’s mite to the overall development of the institution, so that the university would grow more in leaps and bounds in realisation of the dreams of the founding fathers.
