The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University has directed students to go on a mid-semester break following protests over poor hostel facilities.
The placard-carrying students were seen shouting “War”, with an inscription on the placards that the administration of their Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bamitale Omole, should be probed by anti-corruption agencies.
The students alleged that epileptic power and poor water supply, was making the OAU campus un-conducive for learning.
The students also blamed the termination of the admission of an incoming part-one student of History Department, Olawale Owolabi, for their action.
However, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju, refuted the claim that the institution had been shut down.
He said that the authorities only gave the students a mid semester break.
For the two days that the protest had lasted, many students and workers in the university were stranded as there was heavy traffic at the main gate of the institution.
