JAMB Releases Results of Rescheduled UTME Mock Exam

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of over 84,000 candidates who participated in the rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) mock exam. The test, which was held yesterday, took place in 387 centres across Nigeria. According to JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, the exercise was a success and served as a valuable learning experience for the Board.

Rescheduled Mock Exam Background:

The initial UTME mock examination was conducted on Thursday, March 30, 2023. However, due to technical challenges, some candidates were unable to participate. The rescheduled exam was introduced by JAMB to test the preparedness of its facilities and provide candidates with hands-on experience in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) environment.

Success of the Rescheduled Mock Exam:

In a statement, JAMB highlighted the success of the rescheduled mock examination, stating that the challenges encountered had served to improve the system. The Board has consolidated the software and is now prepared to offer Nigerians the best experience during the main UTME.

Results Released but Not Replicable for Main UTME:

Although the results of the mock exam have been promptly released, JAMB emphasized that this will not be the case for the main UTME, scheduled to commence on April 25, 2023. Instead, the results will be released holistically after the eight-day examination period. This approach allows JAMB to screen results, ensuring they are not products of infractions or unwholesome practices, and prevents the need to recall results due to malpractice.

Assessing Overall Performance:

By assessing the entire results, JAMB can obtain the overall standard deviation and mean of the performance of all candidates who sat the examination. This information is then factored into the national education planning template, contributing to better educational planning in Nigeria.
