University of Jos, UNIJOS Governing Council directs the implementation of the N45,000 school charges and reinstatement of dissolved Student Union Government.

UNIJOS IMPLEMENTATION OF THE N45,000 SCHOOL CHARGES & REINSTATEMENT OF DISSOLVED

The 12th Governing Council of the University of Jos has directed the immediate implementation of the Federal Government approved school charges of Forty-Five Thousand Naira (N45,000) for all Federal Universities. Council directed the University Management to implement the payment across all levels of studentship for undergraduates in the University.

The Governing Council’s decision was made during its 11th Regular Meeting. Council deliberated extensively on issues surrounding the implementation of school charges as directed by the Federal Government and met with Exco members of the Unijos Branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Council observed that an earlier memo conveying resolutions reached with Staff Unions over the payment of school charges by Students was not authorized by it or the Federal Government and therefore should be disregarded.

In a bid to resolve some of the lingering issues regarding the school charges, Council further directed that the dissolved Students’ Union Government of the University should be reinstated. This is subject to the condition that each member of the dissolved SUG writes a letter of apology to the University Management for tarnishing the image of the University in the public domain, that each dissolved SUG member pledges to be of good behavior and to maintain good discipline and that they do not introduce any discussion on the approved new school charges of Forty-Five Thousand Naira (N45,000).

Council similarly enjoined Management and Unions of the University to work harmoniously through constant interaction for the growth and development of the institution.
