Prof. Wahab Egbewole will take over as the new vice chancellor of the University of Ilorin, according to an announcement made by the university’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman.
Mallam Abidu Yazid, the pro-chancellor of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) and the chairman of the institution’s governing council, made the announcement on Thursday evening that Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), a professor of law and jurisprudence, will serve as the institution’s next vice-chancellor.
Egbewole, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), will succeed Professor Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, whose term as Vice-Chancellor ends on October 15, 2022.
The head of the Unilorin council told journalists in Ilorin that the new vice chancellor has been with the university for the past 25 years.
“According to the laws of this university, the University of Ilorin CAP U7 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, the current vice-chancellor’s tenure is set to expire on the 15th of October 2022, and the council of the university began the process of appointing a new vice chancellor as early as March 2022.”
“We advertised for applicants both nationally and on our website.” This endeavour resulted in the submission of 29 applications.
“However, even before the results were in, we launched a unique search procedure in which we contacted no fewer than 56 people at universities and other institutions both at home and abroad.”
“In the end, we selected 13 people who met our criteria and other requirements.”
“We specifically sought candidates who would support and be sympathetic to the needs of our students, interface and work smoothly with other faculty members, be mindful of the needs and aspirations of our host community, and who, in our opinion, would be truly concerned about the university’s progress and our responsibility to our nation.”
