Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following Post Graduate Programmes of the School of Public Health, University of Port Harcourt:

  1. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes in:
    • Epidemiology
    • Health Systems Management
    • Population/Reproductive Health
  2. Doctor of Public Health (DrPH)
    • Executive Master of Public Health (MPH)
  3. Master of Science (MSc) programme in:
    • Community Health
    • Environmental Health
    • Occupational Medicine
    • Epidemiology

    • Population/Reproductive Health
    • Health Promotion and Communication
    • Public Health Nutrition
    • Health Information Management
  4. Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD) programme in:
    • Public Health

UNIPORT School of Public Health Postgraduate Admission Requirements

Post Graduate Diploma (PGD): Minimum Duration: Full-time (12 months); Part-time (18 months) Applicants shall be required to have a good University Degree or HND with a minimum of Upper Credit or Higher Diploma in Community Health or its equivalent with at least a Credit pass in the professional examination

MASTERS PROGRAMMES: Minimum Duration: Full-time (12 months); Part-time (24 months).  Candidates would be required to have a minimum of a First Degree in Medicine or First Degree in fields related to the programme with at least a CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or its equivalent. Holders of a Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Public Health with a CGPA of 3.50 are also eligible.

The Occupational Medicine Programme is open to only registered medical practitioners. At the same time, the Community Health Programmes are open to only persons registered with the Community Health Practitioners’ Registration Board of Nigeria.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD) PROGRAMME: Full-time, minimum duration:  36 months; maximum duration 48 months; Part-time, minimum duration 60 months, maximum duration 72 months. Eligible candidates for these competitive programmes would have completed a Masters Degree in appropriate majors, with a CGPA of 3.50 on a 5-point scale.

DOCTOR OF PUBLIC HEALTH (DrPH) PROGRAMME: Full-time, minimum duration:  36 months; maximum duration 48 months; Part-time, minimum duration 60 months, Maximum duration 72 months. Candidates admitted into the DrPH programme should have either Masters/Doctoral Degree in a subject appropriate to the course of study; or Membership (Part 1)/Fellowship in Public Health from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, or its equivalent. Additionally, all DrPH candidates MUST have a minimum of five years post-NYSC experience in a Public Health position.

In addition to the above requirements, candidates for all the programmes must also satisfy the minimum matriculation requirements of the University of Port Harcourt.

  • Masters:  Full-time 12 months; Part-time 24 months
  • Doctoral: Full-time 36 months; Part-time 60 months

Interested candidates should:

  • Visit the website of the school: https://admissions.uphsph.edu.ng to create an account and verify your email address.
  • Pay the non-refundable application fee of Thirty Thousand (30, 000) This can be done either at the banking hall or through bank transfer. It can also be paid for online at the website (www.uphsph.edu.ng). (This process should be initiated from the website and payment method chosen before payment is made.) Evidence of payment made via bank transfer/Internet transfer/bank deposit should be sent to payments@uphsph.edu.ng)
  • Fill the Application Form online.
  • Ensure your referees fill your reference form via the link sent to their email
  • Upload the required documents on the website (https://admissions.uphsph.edu.ng)
  • The transcript should be sent to the school through the transcript label sent to your email or electronic copy sent to our mail (transcript@uphsph.edu.ng)
  • The hard copy Completed copy of the Application Form and the accompanying documents should be submitted on or before Friday, 1st April, 2022.
  • Applicants would be invited for oral and/or aptitude tests before admission is finalised.
