Viewpoint: Wike’s Unhelpful Silence
Viewpoint: Wike’s Unhelpful Silence:
The killing of 59 students of Federal Government College, Buni Yadi and subsequent abduction of over 200 Chibok schoolgirls are few of the heinous activities of the notorious Islamic sect, Boko Haram, that aroused global condemnation. Ironically, the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, whose ministry supervises schools in the country, has neither been heard nor seen making effort or showing concern. Over a month after the incident, he has been reported to have said nothing at all. One wonders if this silence is an act of stoicism or sheer ineptitude and indifference. Has he resigned or been removed to concentrate on his fight for the Rivers State Government House? Anyone who knows this lawyer turned politician very well will agree that he is not a man who shies from publicity. So, Wike, what’s going on? This silence can’t be golden and helpful at all.
