FUGUS Appoints New Vice-Chancellor and Principal Officers

FUGUS Announces Shortlisted Students for Education Loan

Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) has announced the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor alongside two other principal officers. The decision was approved by the Governing Council at its 32nd regular meeting held in Abuja from 9 to 12 December 2025. The announcement is of interest to students, staff, and the wider academic community, as it marks a new phase in the leadership of the university.

Professor Tukur Adamu has been appointed as the 4th substantive Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Gusau (FUGUS). The Council also approved the appointment of Dr Shaibu Adona Sadiku as University Librarian and Qs Agwari Musa Jafaru as Director of Physical Planning, Works and Maintenance. These appointments followed recommendations from the Joint Senate and Council Selection Board.

Leadership Update at Federal University Gusau (FUGUS)

Professor Tukur Adamu served previously as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Development at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. He was born on 2 February 1962 in Gurbi, Talata Mafara area of Zamfara State. He studied at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he earned a B.Sc. in 1986 and an M.Sc. in Zoology in 1993. He later obtained a PhD in Zoology from Usmanu Danfodiyo University in 1998.

His career began in 1987 as a Fisheries Officer with the Sokoto State Government. In 1989, he joined Usmanu Danfodiyo University as a Graduate Assistant and rose through academic ranks to become a Professor of Parasitology in 2005. Over the years, he held roles such as Examinations Officer, Head of Unit, Head of Department, and Director of the School of Matriculation Studies. He also served as Rector of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic in Zamfara State.

Professor Adamu succeeds Professor M G Abubakar, whose tenure as Vice-Chancellor ends on 10 February 2026. Professor Abubakar is recognised for his work in academic growth, staff development, and campus security during his time in office.

Other Principal Appointments

Dr Shaibu Adona Sadiku has been appointed as the new University Librarian. He was born on 19 November 1969 in Oganiman, Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State. He earned a Bachelor of Library and Information Science degree from Bayero University, Kano, in 1995. He later obtained a Master of Library Science degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2011, and a PhD from the University of Ilorin in 2017.

Dr Sadiku joined Usmanu Danfodiyo University in 2008 and progressed to the rank of Principal Librarian. His roles included Head of Processing Unit, Head of Technical Services, Head of Readers Services Unit, and leadership of several branch libraries. In 2022, he became Head of the Department of Library and Information Science. He is a member of the Nigerian Library Association and the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria.

Qs Agwari Musa Jafaru was appointed Director of Physical Planning, Works and Maintenance. He was born on 15 September 1985 in Suleja, Niger State, and is an indigene of the Federal Capital Territory. He studied Quantity Surveying at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, where he obtained a Bachelor of Technology degree in 2020. He is currently pursuing an M.Sc. in Procurement Management at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.

He joined Sokoto State University in 2014 as a Senior Quantity Surveyor and rose to Chief Quantity Surveyor in 2023. In 2025, he was appointed Director of Physical Planning and Maintenance. He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria.
