The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has described the ongoing National Conference as a mere talk shop without democratic legitimacy.

Addressing newsmen today in Abuja, ASUU President, Dr Nasir Fagge, observed that “government opted for subjective selection process giving dominant advantages to the president and the governors” as against the recommendation of election of some of the delegates by the Okunrounmu committee

He concluded that the National Conference “is not a democratic conference: it fails the most important mark of democratic decisions.

The universities lecturer’s union condemned the abduction of over 200 school girls of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok urging the Federal Government to take urgent steps in rescuing them.

They also condemned the use of tear gas and water in dispersing the procession of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) asking the government to fulfill the agreement it entered into with the unionists. (Daily Trust)
