Nasarawa Introduces e-bursary Payment System

Nasarawa State Scholarship Board (NSSB) introduces e-bursary payment system for judicious and accountable utilization of funds.

An e-bursary payment system in which students will have to be issued credit cards to access the amount due them at ATM machines has been introduced by the Nasarawa State Scholarship Board (NSSB).

Executive Secretary of the board, Abdulwahab Sulaiman, told Daily Trust yesterday that the new payment system was initiated in line with Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura’s agenda for judicious and accountable utilization of funds.

He said the students were expected to pay a fee of N1,000 each for the credit card, but that the governor decided to pay for them.

“We had serious problems in the state because of the manner in which scholarships were disbursed in the past. We inherited a board that never paid scholarships to students. And when we started paying, we stumbled on booby traps because of lack of accountability and transparency in the management of funds. The governor, therefore, instructed that the board introduces e-payment which will help foster transparency and accountability”, he said. (Daily Trust)
