With Nigerian children under 15 years of age accounting for about 45 per cent of the country’s population, according to report, the burden on e-learning is becoming overwhelming, particularly with technology gaining continuous influence in every area of human activity.
Apart from the fact that these children do not receive early IT education, forty percent of Nigerian children aged 6-11 are not enrolled in any primary school with the Northern region recording the lowest school attendance rate in the country, particularly for girls.
But with the launch of Etisalat child-friendly educational product called Cliqlite, there are positive signals that it will serve as early intervention in children’s digital education in Nigeria.
Designed for children between the ages of eight to 15 years, the service is available via short code to all prepaid packages and provides unique features in addition to intuitive interface for e-learning.
For the mobile operator, it is a way of making sure that future generation is equipped with the right tools to successfully harness and hone their burgeoning potential in digital education.
Cliqlite’ is an educational tool with applications for learning and syllabus focused on important education landmarks including series of JAMB, SSCE and IGCSE past questions, 14 NERDC Syllabus text books, IGCSE text books (optional), interactive lessons and Norton parental control app to enable parents/guardians monitor online activities of their children/wards.
The solution is loaded with other apps including screen time app to shut down the tab at prescribed time set by parents/guardians, educational games and fun apps.
This feature provides online safety for children between the ages of 8-15 years and also protects children from cyber bullying, obscene or offensive content, pornography, hateful messages and sexual predators.
White List: This unique service enables parents/guardians to block all incoming calls to the child’s/ward’s telephone line except those from lines pre-registered by the parent/guardian on the Cliqlite’s white list.
This is another measure of control that parents/guardians can use to pre-select and bar certain telephone lines from calling their children/wards by listing the undesired telephone numbers on the black list. This unique service enables users to allow all incoming calls except those on their black list.
Parental control data:
This service is activated when the parent registers the child’s line on a parental control portal and selects the websites that the child can be allowed to view.
Norton family app:
This is a preloaded app on the Cliqlite Tab that allows a parent to control the types of websites and apps their children visit. (Vanguard)
