Also, some groups in the university town have described as untrue, reports that one person was killed in a fresh cult clash in the university during the election.
The university, in a statement by Mr Chris Adamaigbor, Deputy Registrar/Public Relations Officer of the institution, in Benin, insisted that the students’ union election of the university took place under a peaceful atmosphere.
He advised journalists to always cross-check their facts before publishing.
Similarly, spokesmen of the groups, Ehime Oseghale of AAU Vanguard and Isah Lukman of AAU Solidarity Movement, insisted that “the university has been peaceful and we have not heard any gun shot or any fight or killing within the university community.
“We are not aware of any cult clash, let alone death of any student. Such rumours or reports are misleading. The AAU SUG election was peaceful. We are aware that there are renewed cult clashes in Edo State, but not in AAU.” ( Vanguard)
