UNILORIN Wins 6th National Mathematics Competition


 University of Ilorin shines at the 6th National Mathematics Competition for University Students (NAMCUS).

The University of Ilorin has clinched the first position at the 6th National Mathematics Competition for University Students (NAMCUS) just as it received a certificate of excellence as the best University in the country.

The competition, which held between April 28 and 30, 2014, took place at the National Mathematical Centre, Abuja where students of the University of Ilorin won three gold medals and one silver medal

The laurel-winning students were WindareOluwagbenga Joshua, who emerged first in individual ranking; Bello AbdulhakeemBolakale, Fatai Musa Olajide and Ibrahim JamiuOmotola. They were tested in Algebra, Complex Analysis, Real Analysis, Functional Analysis and Differential Equations.

 Director General of the National Mathematical Centre, Prof. A.R.T. Solarin who congratulated the students on the feat, disclosed that the outcome of the competition has placed the students among top 5% of Mathematicians in Nigeria.

While enjoining Mathematics Departments to use experts in teaching Pure Mathematics courses, Prof. Solarin disclosed that all the 2014 NAMCUS participants will enjoy the Graduate Improvement Programme organised by the Centre every year.
