Osun Polytechnic Iree Shut Indefinitely After Students Set School Clinic Ablaze Over Colleague’s Death
Osun State Polytechnic, Iree has been shut indefinitely as students staged a violent protest over the death of a colleague after he slumped in the examination hall on Friday. The protesting students who stormed the school’s health centre on Saturday morning set the school clinic and medical equipment ablaze.
It was learnt that one Aminu Hammed, a Higher National Diploma student of the institution’s Department of Applied Chemistry, slumped in the examination hall on Friday, May 31, and was rushed to the school clinic, where he later died.
The protesting students, who stormed the clinic on Saturday morning, alleged that there was no medical personnel at the clinic to attend to Hammed when he was rushed to the clinic.
During the protest, the school’s ambulance, drugs and equipment in the clinic were set ablaze by the students.
To curb further breakdown of law and order on campus, the school management ordered the indefinite closure of the school, asking all students to vacate the premises with immediate effect.
The Memo signed by the Registrar, Barr. B.M salary, reads in part: “This is to inform the general public that Osun State Polytechnic Iree has been closed down indefinitely. As a result of this, all students are to vacate the school premises with immediate effect.”
