University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) Vice Chancellor
The Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has approved the appointment of Professor Owunari Georgewill as the 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.
The announcement was made on Friday by the Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt, Senator Andrew Uchendu.
Senator Uchendu said Prof. Owunari, from the Department of Pharmacology, emerged from twelve other contenders for the top job at the university.
He said the council complied with the provisions of the University Act on the selection of the Vice-Chancellor.
According to him, “After interviewing about 12 applicants, we found three of them appointable and on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari, and following the report of the selection board, the council approved the appointment of Professor Georgewill Owunari as the 9th vice-chancellor of the University of the Port Harcourt.”
Addressing journalists after he was announced as the VC, Prof. Owunari promised to carry everyone along during his time in office.
